Making my way through the entrance of the club, I immediately spotted the internationally known Eslam Shams also known as "ESLAM The Comic".

Looking around the room, I noticed that the Iranian Headliner had drawn a rather diverse crowd. Latinos, Asians, African Americans, and Americans were among the Iranians who had come to see the show.

The mood of the show room seemed to become refreshed once ESLAM The Comic took the stage. Having been introduced as The Pioneer of Iranian American Stand Up Comedy, the topic was his attention grabbing name which I am sure people were wondering about as they gazed towards the stage. Describing various personal experiences he has had in America, Eslam frequently switched to the thick Iranian accent to accurately illustrate his points. The Iranian crowd in particular was in for a treat as they had the natural advantage of better understanding the jokes that included Iranian humor along with words we have heard countless times just from being around our relatives.

While some of his routine was based on the concept of being an ethnic minority within American society, I noticed it wasn’t just the Iranians laughing at Eslam’s jokes. . . It was the entire audience!. . . Some say when we laugh at jokes told by comics, we are actually laughing at ourselves because we can relate to what we are hearing and the familiarity of the stories turns into a sensational source of amusement for us. That philosophy must have been true in Eslam’s case as he had people of various ethnicity sharing in the laughter of his witty tales.

Eslam was also successful at holding the audience's attention by discussing the current events related to entertainment
